Specialized in textile art, Maëva Weissen masters a wide range of traditional and contemporary techniques (weaving, tufting, patchwork), which she always employs with a focus on material upcycling. Her preferred medium is recycled soccer jerseys. Easy to source, they are particularly meaningful to the artist as they represent the culture of working-class neighborhoods where she grew up.
While stories of suburban areas are often marginalized—especially in Switzerland—Maëva is committed to highlighting them by representing iconic symbols and inscriptions. Through football, rap, empowerment, and feminism, her work tells multifaceted stories that reflect the diversity and richness of these communities.
In addition to her artistic practice, Maëva conducts social and artistic work with adolescents. She has collaborated with the Multicultural Centre in Stockholm, the Alliance Française in Madrid, the ASPAS association in Madrid, and with Odyssee13, an association she co-founded with three other socio-cultural actors.
